Facilitating Engaged Learning Online (FELO)

Facilitating Engaged Learning Online (FELO) is a self-paced, online course facilitated by the Center for Academic Innovation to help faculty new to online teaching feel prepared to facilitate at high-quality, online course.

Summer Academy in Adult Learning and Teaching (SAALT)

The University of Southern Maine hosts an annual system-wide professional development experience designed to build the relationships and expertise necessary to develop and implement teaching and learning best practices for the adult non-traditional learner.

A call for applications goes out every March through the Universities’ Provost Offices. All full time and part time faculty are eligible to apply.

Workshop Sponsorship and Support

The Center for Academic Innovation promotes and sponsors workshops that foster faculty and staff development, collaboration, and community. Any USM faculty or staff member can submit a concept for a workshop that can be hosted on any of USM’s campuses or online platforms. Workshop presenters are encouraged to develop materials that can be curated and shared with faculty and staff unable to attend.

Academic Innovation promotion of workshops includes announcements to the university community via campus listservs and websites. Sponsorship may include reserving space on campus, assisting with calendar links to virtual spaces, and ordering materials.

Custom Faculty Development Workshops

Let us bring the learning to you! Our team in the Center for Academic Innovation is ready and able to provide your department with a demonstration, workshop, or training, tailored to the needs of your disciplines and programs. These events give faculty the opportunity to connect with one another and share best practices for student engagement.
