Teaching Showcase: Responsive Teaching Online

February 28, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Learn design strategies for responding to your students’ needs, guiding them through your course content and shining a light on misconceptions.

The ability to remain flexible in response to student needs is one of the hallmarks of good teaching. Online education suffers from many persistent stereotypes, one of which is that it’s rigid and doesn’t lend itself to such flexibility. While it’s true that asynchronous online courses do not allow for real-time or on-the-spot modifications, follow-ups, or pop quizzes, it’s far from true that once a course has been developed there’s nothing an instructor can do while it’s in progress.

Some online instructors rely on a toolbox of design strategies to make sure that they’re guiding students through course content and  weekly requirements. We ‘ll hear from two of them in this Teaching Showcase: Seth Rogoff, adjunct professor of history, and Dr. Jessica Ouellette, assistant professor and director of writing programs.

All USM staff and faculty are welcome to attend this event, and they’ll be entered into a drawing for a brand new iPad pro when they join us!
